Murtaugh and Trish’s relationship will be tested in Season 2 of “Lethal Weapon.”

In a recent interview with KPTV.com, Keesha Sharp revealed that there are going to be some marital problems between Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) and Trish (Sharp) in the upcoming sophomore run of the Fox series.

“I love this couple. We’re getting so much feedback about people loving [them together] but what we’re gonna see this year is ‘What happens when there’s a little bit of conflict?’” Sharp teased when asked what fans can expect from pair in the new season. “I think it’s important for people to see such a loving couple go through a little conflict and how they get through that. ... But at the end of the day, they’re always going to come back [to each other], and the love is what brings them back.”

While Sharp didn’t mention how the conflict between the husband and wife starts, executive producer Matt Miller revealed to TV Guide that the couple’s relationship gets complicated when Trish becomes busy at work.

“What happens is at the end of Season 1, Trish got this job offer. It was a very exciting job for her, and it sounded great on paper,” Miller said. “Trish has given Murtaugh a tremendous amount of rope to go and deal with Riggs (Clayne Crawford) and in his job and in everything else. Really, it’s ‘no questions asked’ as long as he comes home at the end of any night. What happens is that she starts working later and she starts traveling, and maybe he doesn’t quite reciprocate that as much. He becomes a little bit more insecure and possessive and that starts to cause friction in their marriage.”

The arrival of police chief Gina Santos (Michelle Hurd) at LAPD’s robbery-homicide division might also be a contributing factor to Murtaugh and Trish’s conflict. As previously reported, Murtaugh and Gina had a history together, which he considers as “a major source of sexual tension that is basically a chasm between the two of them.”

“There was an incident [between Murtaugh and Santos] many years ago,” Miller told TVLine. “[Murtaugh] explains to Riggs that they were on a stakeout late one night, they were in the car together, and ‘Dancing in September’ came on the radio. They both reached to turn the volume up, and their fingers hit and ‘lingered.’”
