A man in China allegedly abandoned his 5-year-old son at his kindergarten after finding out he was not the boy's biological father.

The child was dropped off at his kindergarten in Southern China's Guangxi province last week, reported South China Morning Post (SCMP).

The staff became concerned after nobody came to pick up the boy at the end of the school day. They then attempted to contact the boy's parents and relatives, and found out no one wanted to collect the kid.

The school staff then turned up at the boy's house where he lived with both his parents, and found it to be deserted as well.

The boy was admitted to the school in April, and his father had always shown up for drop off and pick up, according to a school teacher surnamed Chen.

The father, who is yet to be named in media reports, told Chen he wasn't coming back to pick up the boy as, according to a paternity test, the child was not his biological son. Chen said the child's backpack contained a change of clothes and a mobile phone.

The teacher said the child's father continued to remain in contact with the school. However, the man reportedly said he did not have any parental responsibilities toward the boy, adding the school was free to figure out what to do with the kid.

Chen then contacted the police, who in turn talked to the boy's grandfather and uncle; however, both declined to pick him up.

The boy, who has reportedly spent five days at the school, will be picked up by his biological mother sometime this week, SCMP reported, citing Nanning Radio and Television Station. Her identity and whereabouts remain unknown for now.

It was not clear if any action will be taken against the parents for abandoning the child.

A similar incident was reported last month from Jiangxi province in eastern China after a man took a paternity test and discovered his three daughters, who he was raising with his wife of 16 years, were not his. The woman has denied the allegations, and criticized her husband, who was now seeking divorce. "Please try to empathize with me. The three children called him ‘dad’ for many years, but now he says the daughters are not his own. What is the difference between him and an animal?" she was quoted as saying.
