A man raped his 12-year-old daughter and tried to kill his wife when she attempted to stop him from assaulting her. The incident took place in the southern Indian state of Telangana on Friday.

According to police, the unidentified 45-year-old man reached home drunk Friday night and took the girl to an adjoining room where he attempted to rape her. Upon hearing the girl’s screams, the man’s wife and 14-year-old daughter rushed to the room.

When the wife attempted to stop him from assaulting their younger daughter, the man tried to strangle her to death. The girl, however, managed to escape. They immediately alerted the neighbors who in turn called the police. However, before the officers could reach the scene, the accused had fled.

The 12-year-old daughter told the investigators that her father first raped in January and has since assaulted her several times. Investigation also revealed that the man had also raped his 14-year-old daughter in the past and continued to threaten to kill her if she told anyone about the incident.

A case of rape was filed against the accused. A search was underway for the man who remained at large. Meanwhile, the girls were shifted to a hospital to undergo medical examination.
