A search was underway for a man who set his wife on fire during an argument. The incident took place in Surabaya, Indonesia, on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as 45-year-old Purwanto, married 25-year-old Putri two months ago. The couple argued regularly, however, on Tuesday, the fight got out of control and the man set his wife on fire in a fit of rage.

“They were arguing for five minutes when Putri yelled she was burned alive,” said the owner of the home where the couple stayed.

The owner rushed to the home and found that Putri with burns. He rushed her to a nearby hospital with several burns on her legs, feet, and face. She was undergoing treatment and was listed stable.

Meanwhile, the accused managed to flee the scene on a bike. Police were hunting for the man. A police officer said the motive behind the crime was not known. Officers searched the home but could not find anything. The investigation into the case was ongoing.

In a similar incident in the Indian state of Odisha in June, a woman died after her husband set her ablaze. The couple quarreled regularly since they got married, a month before the incident took place. The couple again got into a fight and in a fit of rage, the husband doused her with petrol and set her ablaze. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
