A man in India was arrested after he brutally killed his former lover’s 7-year-old son because she refused to abandon the boy and resume an affair with him.

The accused, identified as Jana Reddy, arrived at his former lover Lakshmi’s home on March 23 when she was not there and picked up her son, saying he was taking him to his mother, media reports suggested.

Reddy, after riding for a while, parked his vehicle on the side of the road, and then held the victim by his legs before smashing him several times on the road. Reddy then bludgeoned him with a stone and fled the scene. The incident took place in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, local news outlet Sambad Daily reported.

The next morning, the boy’s grandmother, who was sleeping in her room when Reddy picked up the child, filed a missing person’s complaint. Following a search, the boy’s body was found on the side of the road. The suspect was traced and taken into custody Monday.

Investigation revealed Lakshmi had divorced her husband some years ago, and the boy was their only child. She had then met Reddy as part of her job and they began a relationship. They moved in together and she left her son at her mother’s home, Sambad Daily reported.

"Following this, an illicit affair developed between Lakshmi and Jana Reddy and they both lived together for about three years in a rented home," a police officer said, Mid-Day reported.

The woman then started staying with Reddy for some days and with her son on the other days, which made the man unhappy. He started threatening her to abandon her son, but she did not. Lakshmi then ended the relationship and moved to another town with her mother and son. Reddy, who continued to pester her, found she was out of town for work and decided to kill her son.
