In-demand Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho has revealed that he could join Manchester United this summer. The 21-year-old Portugal international has been linked to a host of big clubs and has reportedly been watched by United scouts on a number of occasions this season.

Any potential deal could be hampered by Sporting reportedly only being willing to sell him if his £37.5 million buyout clause is met. Still, in talking after helping his side to a 2-1 victory over Braga on Saturday to remain second in the Portuguese Liga, Carvalho mused about the possibility that he could join United or fellow reported suitors Real Madrid this summer.

"It's nice being praised and to know there are some big clubs interested in me,” he said, according to Sky Sports.

"It could be Manchester United or Real Madrid. It's just nice to have a great European club after me, but at the moment I'm just totally focused on Sporting and doing my best until the end of the season. At the end of the campaign, we will see what happens."

Securing a central midfielder is sure to still feature prominently in David Moyes’s plans, with Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos and Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan strongly linked of late. That will be far from the end of what is set to be a significant overhaul of the Old Trafford squad this summer. The Manchester United boss is also likely to be making plans to sign at least once central defender. Nemanja Vidic has already confirmed that he will be leaving the club when his contract expires in the summer and 35-year-old Rio Ferdinand could follow suit.

The Daily Mirror has reported that one of Moyes’s targets is Freiburg’s Matthias Ginter. Moyes is said to have been in attendance at Freiburg’s goalless draw with Hertha Berlin last Friday to watch the 20-year-old in action. The Germany Under-21 international is thought to be valued at £10 million.

Moyes’ plans to strengthen his defense may extend beyond the center-back position. His interest in a new left-back is well known, with Luke Shaw now believed to be the number one target after several failed bids were made for Everton’s Leighton Baines. And it now appears that Moyes has been knocked by his former club in his efforts to recruit a right-back.

According to the Mirror, Moyes is keen on Republic of Ireland international Seamus Coleman, but Everton have no interest in listening to any offers. The 25-year-old, who has been an increasingly impressive presence, particularly going forward, is also believed to be keen to stay at Goodison Park.

The Daily Star claims that United are instead turning their attentions to a cheaper alternative in PSV Eindhoven’s Santiago Arias. Like Coleman, Arias is good on the ball, although he has averaged only half the number of key passes and dribbles as the Everton man this season, according to Stats website WhoScored.com. Arias moved to PSV from Sporting Lisbon last summer and made his debut for Colombia last September. The pacy 22-year-old is said to be valued at £8 million.
