In-demand Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao has sought to cool talk of a transfer to Manchester United this summer.

Falcao, linked strongly to Chelsea and Real Madrid for several months, was last week the subject of claims from Spanish publication Marca that United were front-runners to sign him. There was even a suggestion that a down payment had already been made.

It is believed that Atletico would be willing to countenance a huge offer for the 27-year-old this summer. Falco, though, continues to claim that he is simply focusing on the present.

“In recent weeks I have tried to isolate myself and not think about the rumors about my future," Falcao said, reports Sky Sports.

"I do not really know where that information has come from [joining Manchester United], that is part of the press.

"I'm focused only on Atletico Madrid. I do not let the market rumors affect my performance."

The speculation over a move for Falcao comes amidst increasing rumors that Wayne Rooney’s days at Manchester United may be coming to an end.

Having been left out of the starting lineup for his side’s key Champions League second leg against Real Madrid, which initially sparked reports over his future, Rooney was taken off against West Ham on Wednesday with 20 minutes remaining as United chased the game.

The Sun has jumped on that decision to again suggest that Rooney may be off in the summer. Paris Saint-Germain have been strongly linked to the England forward, while a former adviser to the big-spending French club, Michel Moulin, recently claiming that a deal was already done.

A very different story has been reported in the Independent this week. The paper instead claims that talks over a new contract for Rooney could well get underway this summer, while also stating that there are no plans at United to move for Falcao.

It does, though, appear increasingly likely that 25-year-old midfielder Anderson will be leaving Old Trafford at the end of the season. The Brazilian has failed to firmly establish himself at United since his big-money arrival from Porto at age 19.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Sir Alex Ferguson is now prepared to cash-in on the player in the summer, with Porto interested in bringing him back to Portugal. Anderson has made just seven starts in the Premier League this season and his time at Old Trafford has been dogged by injury, inconsistent form and questions over his fitness. He has just over two years remaining on his United contract.

Porto’s interest in Anderson could aid United’s bid to bring their Colombian winger James Rodriguez to the club.

United have been linked to the talented 21-year-old for over a year and there were unconfirmed reports that they had a £25 million bid rejected last summer. Ferguson has also previously joked that he hopes reports of their interest in Rodriguez wasn’t true because of Porto’s notoriously high valuation of their players.
