Oklahoma Man Attempts To Rape 10-Year-Old Playing Outside Her Home, Arrested

A man was arrested for attempting to rape a minor girl while she was playing outside her house. The incident took place at The Village, Oklahoma, on Wednesday (May 6).

The accused, identified as 42-year-old Wade Treloar Smalling, was arrested after he attempted to rape a 10-year-old girl while she was alone, playing basketball in the family’s driveway. Andrea Neely, the victim’s mother, was at work at the time. She said her daughter was left unattended for about 10 minutes as the girl's father had to deliver her food.

Smalling had walked up to the girl after parking his vehicle outside the house and started touching her inappropriately. He also threatened to harm her if she did not listen to him.

When the girl’s father returned, Smalling fled from the scene in his vehicle. However, police were able to identify the man through the dashcams on the vehicles parked in the driveway. Police also said that the vehicle he was driving was associated with attempted kidnapping.

“He shouldn’t be breathing the same air. To me that is to any pedophile, any rapist. They shouldn’t be breathing the same air as their victims,” said Neely.

“She’s a little shook up. She’s actually holding it together better than I do,” she added while talking about her daughter’s condition.

According to Oklahoma City Police Department, officers were already investigating the man since December 2018, after receiving a tip about child pornographic content being shared on the internet. In January 2019, officers received a search warrant and discovered thousands of photos and videos of child pornography on Smalling's computer.

“People are generally safe but there is no question that you just have to pay attention because you really never know who is watching you, who will assault you,” said the deputy chief of The Village Police Department.

“Keep an eye on your kids. Get them to carry pepper spray, get them to carry some kind of weapon on them and also use your voice, don’t be scared,” Neely added, hoping that the incident serves as a wake-up call for other parents.

Smalling was being held at Oklahoma County Jail. He was charged with distributing child pornography, making lewd or indecent proposals to child under 16, aggravated possession of child pornography, kidnapping, and several other charges. His bond was set at $5,012,000.
