Kate Middleton and Prince William reportedly waited for years before Prince Charles finally allowed them to share a room in his home.

Marcia Moody wrote in her 2013 book, "Kate: A Biography," that the Prince of Wales only permitted the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to share a bed five years after they started dating. Prince William and Middleton had been in a relationship since 2001, but it was reportedly only in 2006 when Middleton was allowed to stay in the same room as Prince William.

“Around this time, Charles gave his permission for them to sleep in the same bed when they stayed over at his country home, Highgrove,” Moody wrote.

The royal biographer added that there were a lot of firsts for the couple during their time in Highgrove that year. During that time, Middleton was seen for the first time with the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall in a public event.

Middleton attended the Cheltenham Gold Cup with a friend and was invited to the royal box for lunch with Prince Charles and Camilla. Moody pointed out that the moment was “telling” because Prince William wasn’t there, and it seemed like a sign that Middleton was already “being accepted as one of the family.”

“It was the first time she had been seen in public with Charles and Camilla in a formal setting,” Moody wrote.

However, things weren’t the same the following year when Middleton attended the same event with Prince William. According to Moody, the couple looked “unhappy” as the rot set in their relationship.

Prince William and Middleton were reportedly not spending enough time together and were having relationship problems. Middleton wasn’t happy about the Duke of Cambridge spending less time with her and more time with his friends at the barracks going out and drinking. She felt that Prince William was being disrespectful and was fed up.

Nowadays, however, Prince William and Middleton look very happy together. Lately, the couple has been spotted packing on PDA during their recent royal engagements.

When the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited Blackpool, Prince William made an “unusual gesture” when he placed a hand at Middleton’s waist. Prior to that, they were seen holding hands while on their way to a waiting chopper as they were about to leave Kensington Palace.
