Princess Diana reportedly knew very early on that she would never become a queen.

A video of the late Princess of Wales’ interview regarding her future as a member of the royal family recently resurfaced. In the clip, the interviewer asked the mom of two if she thinks she would ever become queen, and she said no.

When asked to explain her answer, Princess Diana said that she prefers to be the queen in people’s hearts, but she never saw herself as the queen of the country.

“I don’t think many people would want me to be Queen, actually. When I say many people, I mean, the establishment that I married into because they have decided that I’m a non-starter,” Princess Diana explained.

The interviewer then asked Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom why she thinks the royal family saw her in such a way. In response, Princess Diana let out a deep sigh before saying that she has been doing things differently.

“Because I don’t go by a rule book, because I lead from the heart, not the head, and albeit that’s got me into trouble in my work, I understand that. But someone’s got to go out there and love people and show it," she explained.

Princess Diana was known for breaking royal traditions when she was still alive. She was the first member of the royal family to give birth at a hospital. She was also the first member of the British clan to not opt for homeschooling.

When she was still alive, Princess Diana became the first member of the royal family who broke the misconceptions about HIV/AIDS. The mom of two shook hands with an HIV patient without wearing gloves.

As such, Princess Diana is still remembered by the entire world even though she has been dead for over two decades. Prince William and Prince Harry are also making sure that their mom’s legacy continues to live on.
