Queen Elizabeth II was upset by Prince Harry’s “unnecessary” comment about the monarchy.

In Katie Nicholl’s 2017 book “Harry: Life, Loss, and Love,” the royal author revealed that the Duke of Sussex was reluctant with his royal life. This was reflected in Prince Harry’s conversation with U.S. magazine Newsweek.

“Is there any one of the royal family who wants to be king or queen? I don’t think so, but we will carry out our duties at the right time,” Prince Harry said.

According to Nicholl, it was the first time that Prince Harry made a public comment about the monarchy and it didn’t sit well with the Palace. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Harry share a “very special relationship" but at that point, Her Majesty couldn’t understand the comment Prince William’s brother made about their duties.

“I think she found them unnecessary and upsetting,” Nicholl wrote.

The royal biographer added that for the Queen, whatever your lot is, you get on with it. She never complains and cannot understand the need to open up about such matters to the public. While it could possibly be a “generational thing,” Queen Elizabeth II just couldn’t comprehend it.

Royal correspondent Camilla Tominey mentioned in one of her articles about Meghan Markle that the Queen’s mantra was to “never complain and never explain.” Tominey encouraged Prince Harry’s wife to follow the same mindset after her friends’ interview with People.

Royal biographer Penny Junor once described Prince Harry as a “reluctant royal.” Junor revealed that there was one time when Prince Harry was about to turn his back on his royal responsibilities to live a normal and quiet life. Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s youngest son was willing to give up all his rights and privileges as a royal at the time, but Queen Elizabeth II made him change his mind.

Queen Elizabeth II reportedly forgave all of Prince Harry’s shortcomings. The Duke of Sussex was involved in a number of controversies when he was younger. But Her Majesty didn’t mind them. She encouraged the royal to carry out his responsibilities instead.

The rumors about Prince Harry wanting to abandon his royal life continued even after he married Markle. There were speculations that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would depart from the royal household to give their baby a normal life.
