Queen Elizabeth II wanted Camilla Parker Bowles out of Prince Charles’ life.

It is not a secret that the Queen disapproved of Camilla for the future king. The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall had a hard time winning Her Majesty’s approval and the public’s support after Princess Diana blamed their affair for her failed marriage.

Penny Junor in her book “The Duchess: the Untold Story” shared the aftermath of Princess Diana’s untimely death in 1997 and how the Queen felt about Camilla before and after the accident.

“The Queen had wanted [Camilla] gone before Diana’s death and she felt no differently after it,” Junor wrote.

“She had been very fond of Camilla in all the years she had been married to Andrew, but it was Camilla who had been responsible, wittingly or not, for all the disasters that had befallen the price since his marriage.”

However, Prince Charles didn’t follow the Queen’s advice. Queen Elizabeth II made the said decision as a monarch and not as a mother.

“[Charles] made it perfectly clear to anyone who would listen that Camilla was a non-negotiable part of his life,” the biographer said.

According to Junor, Prince Charles needed support and Camilla gave it to him. The Duchess of Cornwall was the person who rescued the future king from the depth of depression. She also showed him love, comfort, approval and tenderness that he didn’t get to experience in the royal household.

When Prince Charles celebrated his 50th birthday a year after Princess Diana’s death, Queen Elizabeth II hosted a party for him. However, she snubbed Camilla by not inviting the duchess to the event and this reportedly “infuriated” the heir.

One night Prince Charles approached Queen Elizabeth II and asked her to warm up to his then-girlfriend. Her Majesty was drinking some martinis and dismissed her son’s request.

Queen Elizabeth II reportedly replied forcefully that she wanted nothing to do with Camilla. She also called the duchess a “wicked woman.”

As of late, Queen Elizabeth II and Camilla’s relationship has improved. In fact, the Queen recognized Camilla’s work and influence to Prince Charles’ life when Her Majesty delivered a speech at the heir’s 70th birthday party in November.
