“Shameless” Season 7 Spoilers
Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy) will manage to survive his icy, Season 6 dip in the Chicago river when Season 7 of “Shameless” returns in October. Showtime

It’s going to take more than an icy dip in freezing waters to kill off Frank Gallagher. According to details regarding the Season 7 plot of “Shameless,” the perpetually drunk patriarch of the Gallagher clan will manage to make it out alive after getting dumped into a bitter Chicago river.

But how exactly did the intoxicated junkie survive his frosty fate? Well, Deadline reported that Frank (William H. Macy) narrowly escaped being turned into an icicle during the Showtime series’ Season 6 finale. However, Fiona’s (Emmy Rossum) crude father couldn’t avoid enduring a coma from the subzero splash.

That’s how the upcoming installment of “Shameless” will begin when the long-running series returns for an early premiere slot in the fall. Season 7 of the dramedy will kick off with a time jump, nearly one month after the Season 6 finale. But fans shouldn’t expect Frank to be in a coma for very long. The troublemaker will awake from him lengthy slumber, rested enough to wreak havoc on his family for allowing him to get tossed into a river by Svetlana (Isidora Goreshter).

Fiona, however, doesn’t have time for Frank’s shenanigans. Newly single and determined to “improve her own life,” Fiona will dedicate herself to managing Patsy’s. We’re hoping Fiona’s busy schedule will allow her to focus on herself and life as a single woman in lieu of diving head first into another complicated relationship.

So what will the other Gallagher children be up to when Season 7 premieres in October? Ian (Cameron Monaghan) will still be working as an EMT (and a successful one) while Lip (Jeremy Allen White) continues working on himself and his issues with alcohol in rehab. Debbie (Emma Kennedy) and Carl (Ethan Cutkosky) will also be evolving in the forthcoming installment. Debbie will mature as a mother to little Franny as Carl faces new obstacles that come with turning into a man.

But can the Gallagher kids grow up fast enough to not be dependent on Fiona, who will be concentrating on bettering herself? That’s what Season 7 of “Shameless” will dive into when the show returns with its premiere episode on Sunday, Oct. 2, at 9 p.m. EDT on Showtime.
