Not everything for Kody and the Brown family was smooth sailing as the beloved "Sister Wives" stars attempted to construct a prize-worthy cardboard boats for the annual Las Vegas Pirate Festival. While building their ships, the family faced a boat-load of drama in episode 4, titled “Trying to Stay Afloat,” as several members’ butted heads during the creation of the paper vessels – specifically Kody and his wives.

After watching Robyn and Kody disagree about the design of their team’s boat, Christine says to her fellow sister wife that’s she’s wasting her breath quarreling with the Brown patriarch.

“In the end… guess what? He’s going to win anyway,” Christine, who experienced getting her ideas “bulldozed” by her husband in episode 3, says in the confessional. “He’s going to do it his way, anyway, 90 percent of the time. So why argue? Because there’s no point.”

But their bickering was put on hold when the Brown’s lawyer informs Kody and Robyn that Robyn’s ex is at her office, discussing the issues of giving Kody parental rights to his children.

“She said it’s done,” Robyn says tearfully. “He signed it.”

During a confessional the two reveal they’re shocked Aurora, Dayton and Breanna’s father agreed to the adoption inquiry – and so quickly.

“We’re shell-shocked because we have gone so far, moving so fast, thinking we were going to have this major, major fight with him and all of a sudden it’s over,” Kody says.

The excited parents then rush over to Meri’s (who divorced Kody so that he could legally marry Robyn in order to adopt her kids) to reveal the great news.

“Congratulations! That’s awesome,” she says as Kody and Robyn embrace her with a hug.

But it was Christine’s reaction to the adoption that really embodied how we were feeling: “Meri, your divorce was worth it!” Kody’s third wife quips as she cries tears of happiness.

Robyn and Kody’s next step was tell her kids. But Kody, unfortunately, didn’t get the reaction he was hoping for. While Aurora broke down in tears, revealing that it was a “dream come true” to be adopted by Kody, Dayton explained that he was a bit shocked.

“I’m just downright surprised and baffled,” Robyn’s eldest son says before revealing he’s also happy.

But the adoption process isn’t over just yet. Kody will now have to make a plea to a judge of why he should be granted legal rights over Robyn’s children.

“It comes down to the judge and how he feels about plural families,” Christine notes as Kody questions if his plea will be denied.

"Sister Wives" airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. EDT on TLC.
