While "Squid Game" has become one of the biggest shows in the world according to various reports, the South Korean star of the show Lee Jung-jae revealed he hasn't received any "proposals" from Hollywood yet.

"No proposals or requests have come my way," Jung-jae told Variety Monday. "But, if the right one came along, I’d be happy to be in overseas production. It could be fun."

Jung-jae also reflected on the success he received after the "Squid Game" series release.

"I didn’t expect this kind of success at all when I first boarded ‘Squid Game’ as a project," the actor told the outlet. "But when I read the script, I understood that it contained elements that could resonate with everyone and work outside of Korea."

In the series, the actor portrayed a man named Seong Gi-Hun who took huge loans and gambles in the hopes of paying them off. After getting beaten up by loan sharks and realizing that his daughter will be taken to another country soon, he accepts an invitation to a deadly game that can help him win a massive cash prize.

Besides the storyline of "Squid Game," the actor noted that he was impressed by director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who directed movies like "Miss Granny" and "The Fortress."

"[Dong-hyuk's] success comes from being very detailed about explaining the characters, their roles and their feelings," Jung-jae told Variety. "Sadness wears many different faces and [in ‘Squid Game’] the characters’ different sadnesses can easily be felt by viewers."

He further praised the director, noting that he is "capable of building characters from the ground upwards, which is why when the characters have to take big decisions, they are believable." The actor added that this is the reason why the audience believed the series' "climactic ending, it is actually touching."

Considering the success of the Netflix show, another popular star of "Squid Game" Jung Ho-Yeon recently became the most-followed South Korean Actress on Instagram. The 27-year-old actress' followers on Instagram have increased from 4,10,000 to 19.1 million within just a couple of weeks.

"Squid Game" is currently streaming on Netflix. It was released on Sept. 17, 2021.
