Vampire Diaries Alaric
Alaric (Matt Davis) might find love again in “The Vampire Diaries” Season 8. CW

Finding love on “The Vampire Diaries” isn’t easy. All of the characters have their fair share of romantic drama, but Alaric has had a particularly rough time. His only living ex-girlfriend is technically undead. Since “The Vampire Diaries” is ending with Season 8, Alaric only has 16 episodes to find someone to live happily ever after with, but executive producer Julie Plec isn’t so sure that’s going to happen.

“Alaric hasn’t had the best luck with women,” she told TVLine. “I don’t know if he should be jumping into anything anytime soon, but if he does, the hot nanny would certainly be viable.”

That sounds like a hint. “Containment” actress Kristen Gutoskie will be playing Seline, the nanny helping Alaric (Matt Davis) and Caroline (Candice King) with the twins on the CW drama. Caroline would never let anyone under-qualified within five feet of her babies, so it’s safe to say that Seline appears to be a good caretaker. It sounds like she is already attached to the Saltzmans too. “Bonded to her new ‘family’ in ways she can’t explain, Seline will fight desperately to protect the ones she loves,” Deadline reports.

However, it’s just a matter of her staying alive. The twins are witches, Caroline is a vampire and Alaric, despite being human, always manages to find himself in the middle of supernatural conflicts. With any luck, Seline will be the one woman who loves Alaric and can protect herself, but this is “TVD.” No one is ever safe.

Plec previously said that Alaric’s love life was on her mind, but she wasn’t exactly sure he’d get a happy ending. “Alaric lost so much and has never been able to find love in a way that could be forever for him,” she told seat42f in July. “So we’re going to the end of the season, so do we finally give that to him, or do we keep him for all eternity as the guy who is unlucky in love?”

How will Caroline feel about Alaric’s love life? Well, she’s trying to be supportive, but she might be distracted. She’ll have a lot on her plate at the beginning of Season 8. “She’s trying to be the perfect mother, the perfect baby mama to her recently parted fiancé, she has a new job, she’s back in Mystic Falls,” Plec told Entertainment Weekly last month. “She’s working at the local news station in Mystic Falls as a behind-the-scenes journalist this time. She’s also trying to juggle a very important relationship to Stefan [Paul Wesley] against the crisis of the moment, which is that Stefan’s brother is MIA. She’s multi-tasking in her own fierce, fabulous way.”

“The Vampire Diaries” Season 8 premieres Friday, Oct. 21, at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
