Sam's Club wholesale store announced it will limit customers to buy up to four bags of rice due to Supply and demand trends the company said.

The restriction will be effective immediately in all U.S. stores allowed by the law which are about 594 across the nation. Customers will be able to buy four bags at a time of Jasmine, basmati and long-grain white rice.

Rice prices rose to a record high today in Chicago trade, the grain's costs has more than doubled in the past year as supplies shrink.

Along with Sam's Club, Costco Wholesale Corp. announced it is restricting sales of items such as rice and flour.

Shares of Wal Mart stores closed 0.65 percent up or 37 cents to $56.92 on the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday.
