“The Winds of Winter” is the long awaited next book in “A Song of Ice and Fire” series by George RR Martin. The book admittedly has been delayed for too long, and even now the release date of the book is yet to be announced. According to a new theory there is a reason why it has been delayed.

All the fans know that Martin has been busy with many distractions ever since “Game of Thrones” TV series was launched, which took away precious time away from writing the next book. However, this may not be the only reason why the author has been unable to complete the book.

When Martin initially started writing “A Song of Ice and Fire,” he wanted it to be a trilogy, Screen Rant reported. But, as the story grew more complex it became so vast that even the author found it difficult to keep track of all the major characters and all the moving parts of the story.

“The Winds of Winter” is expected to have anywhere between 15 and 20 point of view characters. In comparison, the first book in the series only had eight point of view characters, which shows the scale of growth of the story.

While Martin is admittedly struggling with the next book in “A Song of Ice and Fire,” he has no trouble writing other books. He has also written books that are based on Westeros, like the “Fire and Blood” book that Martin announced has a new illustrated version out.

While writing is a priority, Martin also can’t ignore his other commitments. A set of new TV series based on the authors books are being developed, and Martin may have to get involved at least in some capacity for making them a success.

Meanwhile, the fans are waiting for any updates about the release date of “The Winds of Winter.” Martin doesn’t like people asking him about the progress of the book. Even in his recent interview with The Irish Times, the author was not asked anything about the upcoming book.
