The “Kings of K-Pop” are returning on April 5 according to a teaser released by YG Entertainment on Sunday.

YG Entertainment tweeted an enigmatic image of a dark polaroid film with the words “Bigbang 0AM APRIL 05 2022.” The music label captioned its tweet, “#BIGBANG RELEASE POSTER 2022.04.05 0AM.”

The announcement said very little but it meant so much for fans who have been hoping for a comeback from the four remaining members of the group: Taeyang, Daesung, G-Dragon and T.O.P.

Seungri earlier retired from the entertainment industry following his imprisonment due to his involvement in the "Burning Sun Scandal."

Loyal fans, known as VIP, took to Twitter on Sunday and expressed their anticipation over the upcoming album. The last musical project of the group was the album "Flower Road" released in March 2018.

Bigbang loyalist @Bigbangdominate felt vindicated with the impending release of the upcoming album and said, “VIPS ARE WE OK BIGBANG IS REALLY BACK IM SHAKING OMG I CANT BELIEVE THIS AFTER YEARS OF CLOWNING WE WON.”

In November 2021, VIPs sent a protest truck in front of YG Entertainment demanding for a four-member comeback for the group. Fans noted that the boy band has not made any new recording since their release from mandatory military activities beginning 2019.

Other fans also aired their excitement over the new album under the trending hashtag, "#WelcomeBackBIGBANG."

One of them wrote, “I want to cry so bad. I always listen to your song whether I'm sad or happy. It just cures my depression thank you! Stay physically and mentally healthy bigbang!”

Another VIP said, “THE RETURN OF THE KINGS! WELCOME BACK BIGBANG” alongside a clip of an old concert showing hundreds of screaming fans holding their light sticks in the air as the boy band gets ready backstage for the show.

BigBang was formed in 2006 and helped spread the K-pop wave overseas with several hits such as “Sunset Glow,” “Bang Bang Bang,” “Monster” and “Haru Haru.” Their 2011 EP titled, “Tonight” led them to receive the Best Worldwide Act Award at the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards. Meanwhile, their fifth EP, “Alive” released in 2012 became the first Korean album to chart on the competitive US Billboard 200.
