Elizabethtown -- Two people were rescued after they reportedly fell inside a tank full of chocolate at the Mars M&M factory in Pennsylvania.

The incident took place Thursday, local media reports said. It was unclear how the two people fell into the vat.

While it doesn't seem they were seriously injured, they reportedly couldn't get out of the tank. The authorities had to cut a hole in the side of the tank to get them out, CNN reported.

Some reports said the two people were employees at the factory. Both people were taken to a nearby hospital, but the extent of their injuries was not known. It was also not known if the tank was filled to the brim or empty when the victims fell into it.

“One patient was transported by ground and one person was transported by helicopter,” Assistant Supervisor Nick Schoenberger of Lancaster County 911 Dispatch told CNN.

The identities of the victims remain unknown. It was also unclear who spotted them first and called for help.

Along with the police, the Elizabethtown Fire Department was called to the scene to respond to the situation.

Brad Wolfe, communications supervisor for Lancaster County 911 dispatch, had told CNN earlier: “Fire crews have eliminated pulling them straight out of a tank... They have to cut a hole in the side of the tank to get them out."

“We are actively managing the situation and our primary focus is supporting emergency teams on site,” a Mars Wrigley spokesperson told CNN.

“The incident currently is being downgraded, but originally two employees were stuck in a sort of dry chocolate," a Lancaster County 911 spokesperson told TODAY.

The factory is registered under Mars, Incorporated, which is a family-owned, multinational confectionery and pet food manufacturer. The company has 22 manufacturing facilities in the United States, and it is best known for sweets such as M&M’s, Snickers and Twix.

“We can confirm both people have been taken offsite for further evaluation. We’re extremely grateful for the quick work of first responders,” a spokesperson for Mars told The New York Post.
