A two-year-old girl died at a hospital Monday night, five days after her father allegedly gave her poison. The incident took place in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

According to local reports, the toddler was admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) after her mother found her vomiting. The child's father, identified only by his first name Sathiyaprabu, fed her an egg mixed with rat poison, sourced told the New Indian Express.

The newspaper reported that the man suspected his wife of infidelity and believed that he was not the biological father of the girl.

On Oct. 1, Sathiyaprabu took the child and fed her the egg stuffed with rat poison. After eating it, the child started vomiting and was rushed to the hospital. Despite treatment, doctors were unable to save the child. The Keelavalavu police registered a case against Sathiyaprabu and also against the child's aunt and uncle – identified as Vasanthi and Karuppaiah.

The mother of the child told police that Vasanthi and Karuppaiah instigated Sathiyaprabu to feed the toddler poison. All three are on the run, police said.

In a similar incident in April, a man killed his newborn baby suspecting his wife was having an affair. The incident took place this week in the Indian state of Gujrat.

Local police said at the time that the man thought that his wife was cheating on him and that he was not the biological father of the child. The couple was having fights ever since the baby was born. On the day of the incident, the accused argued with his wife after he returned home and started confronting her about her alleged affair. He then threw an axe at his sleeping infant, killing him.
