The extended trailer for "American Horror Story: Freak Show" gives viewers a closer look at the performers. Season 4 premieres on Oct. 8. FX

The Oct. 8 return of “American Horror Story” is quickly approaching, and to celebrate, FX has released the first official full-length trailer for Season 4, “Freak Show.” The promo video premiered during Sunday night’s episode of “The Strain,” giving fans a closer look at the cast of performers who will be involved in the new chilling tale.

“Ready to peek under the big top?” teases the caption for the trailer. “Prepare yourself.”

The first extended promo video begins with a tattooed hand opening up the entranceway of the ill-lit freak show tent. As viewers explore the halls and people inside, “Carousel” by Melanie Martinez plays overhead.

The first recognizable cast member to grace the screen is Kathy Bates, who will be playing Ethel Darling, the Bearded Lady. Bates sits in a chair looking in a mirror while a man trims her facial hair. Viewers then follow the cameras to Michael Chiklis’s character, Dell Toledo, the Strongman. Chiklis’s character can be seen lifting a giant dumbbell while a woman sits perched on his shoulders.

After Chiklis, “American Horror Story” fans get a closer look at a contortionist who is hanging out with Angela Bassett’s character, Desiree Dupree, the Three-Breasted Woman. Evan Peters is up next as Jimmy Darling, getting some action from a blonde woman. But a closer inspection of the “AHS” alum shows that he has clawed hands.

The final few “Freak Show” cast members that fans get to see are Sarah Paulson, Jessica Lange and Jyoti Amge. A photograph of Paulson previously revealed that her characters, Bette and Dot Tattler, were conjoined twins – but the video shows that something is off between the women. Bette and Dot appear to have conflicting personalities, with one woman looking grave while the other eyes the camera with a sly smile. Lange finally graces the screen as Elsa Mars, the woman in charge of one of the final freak shows in the U.S. The actress ditched her signature blonde hair for red locks, and can be seen wearing a red and white striped dress … which is being held by Amge, the smallest woman in the world.

As we previously reported, Season 4 of “American Horror Story” is set in 1952 in the “quiet, sleepy hamlet” of Jupiter, Florida. But when a “troupe of curiosities” moves to town, things quickly turn from “quiet” to deadly. The arrival of the curiosities coincides with “the strange emergence of a dark entity that savagely threatens the lives of townsfolk and freaks alike.” According to the season synopsis, “Freak Show” will tell the story of “the performers and their desperate journey of survival amidst the dying world of the American carny experience.”

Other “American Horror Story: Freak Show” cast members include Gabourey Sidibe, Emma Roberts, Denis O’Hare, Frances Conroy, John Carroll Lynch, Wes Bentley and Patti LaBelle. Season 4 will premiere on FX on Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 10 p.m. EDT.
