KEY POINTS

  • Apple is rumored to hold an event on September 7
  • It could mean early release of iPhone 14 series
  • Apple has not yet said anything related to the rumored September event

September is one of the highly anticipated months in the tech industry since the Cupertino-based tech juggernaut Apple annually holds a major event in this month. Based on the latest reports, Apple will hold its much-awaited event this year earlier than anticipated, allowing fans to take a sneak peek at its latest offerings, especially the new iPhone 14 flagship series.

The said Apple major event is reportedly slated for September 7, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. But aside from the reporter, industry insider Max Weinbach disclosed this information a week ago and said, "fwiw I heard September 6th event and iPhone's on sale on the 16thnot 100% sure, but around there seems right."

TFI Securities analyst confirmed the event in his recent note saying, "The iPhone 14 announcement/shipping date may be earlier than iPhone 13/12, which could be one of the reasons Apple offered a positive outlook for 3Q22 from the last earnings call."

The early event date could mean that the release of the next iPhones, AirPods Pro and three new Apple Watch models could also happen earlier than expected. Apple usually holds its event on a Tuesday, but considering that September 5, a Monday is a Labor Day holiday, it is more likely that the tech titan would want to have a one-day buffer, thereby scheduling the event on a Wednesday.

Releasing the new products could benefit Apple sales-wise, especially since a lot of consumers stopped purchasing iPhones this month in anticipation of a mid-September release of the new flagship iPhone 14 series. Cutting that one-week gap would seem good for the company's sales.

Kuo also said that while the early release is beneficial for sales, Apple decided to have it this way to reduce problems. Kuo noted, "The global recession risk is still growing and unpredictable, so announcing/shipping the iPhone as soon as possible may minimize the impact of recession risk on demand."

Aside from the new products, Apple is also anticipated to feature a pre-recorded event video, according to reports. It is worth noting that while the latest set of details about the Apple event in September came from reliable names in the industry, this is not yet official. Consumers should temper their expectations and treat this information as highly speculative at this stage.
