Barack Obama shared one of the toughest decisions he made when he was the president and what he did at the time.

The former POTUS wrote a lengthy blog post on Medium on how he approached the toughest decisions in his life saying, "Our choices reflect and determine who we are." Obama shared that authorizing the raid of al-Qaeda terrorist Osama bin Laden was one of the toughest decisions he made during his presidency.

"Everything I learned about making impossible decisions during the first two years of my presidency culminated in one of the toughest choices I had to make: whether to authorize the raid to take out Osama bin Laden," Obama wrote.

"It was an operation rife with uncertainty and risk. So, I ran a tight process. I trusted my team. I listened to every voice in the room. I gave myself space to think. And then I made a decision that reflected my own personal sense of what was right. While I couldn’t guarantee the outcome, I was confident in making the decision."

Obama shared that there were several complex situations that he needed to adjudicate when he was in the Oval office and he understood that it was part of the job of the president. He also recognized the fact that regular Americans have to make countless decisions daily.

"We’re constantly assessing how to act and what to do, carefully weighing the safety of each choice. It can be exhausting," he continued.

"The best we can do is find a framework that helps us consider our choices, knowing that there may not be one perfect answer. That way, we can rest a little easier knowing that did the best we could in the circumstances, come what may."

Obama also credited his mom's contribution to the way he makes decisions. Stanley Ann Dunham used to tell him, "The world is complicated, Bar. That’s why it’s interesting."

Obama shared the link of his blog post on Twitter and it received several responses from the netizens. Many praised the former president for the way he approached things.

"A fantastic read," Brad Wollack commented.

Meanwhile, another wished they could have Obama back as president. She added that knowing how Obama makes decisions made her feel safe because he actually thought about his decisions.
