A man beheaded his wife during an argument and walked into the police station with her severed head. The incident took place in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.

Police said the accused, identified as 30-year-old Naresh Kumar, and his wife, Shanti, used to frequently fight over his drinking habit. The couple was married for over 17 years and had four children.

On Sunday night, Kumar was drinking in the home when a frustrated Shanti rebuked him again. In a fit of rage, Kumar killed her with a sharp object before decapitating her. He then placed her severed head in a container and left the home.

“When their children woke up in the morning they did not find their mother. They searched for her and managed to enter the locked room. They found that her headless body was lying in a pool of blood. The children soon informed other members of the family and later they called the police,” police said, adding that the forensic teams reached the scene and recovered the weapon used in the crime.

“As per the preliminary investigation, it seems that the killer tried to wash the room in order to remove blood,” police added.

In the meantime, the accused walked into the police station with his wife’s severed head and confessed to the crime. He was immediately taken into custody.

“During interrogation, Naresh claimed that his wife had an illicit affair which seems to be false. Four days ago he had climbed on a transformer and asked residents to help him clean it. It also suggests that he may not be mentally stable,” police said.
