Abby Lee Miller has moved on to a new group of children for the upcoming season of “Dance Moms,” but that doesn’t mean she’s not still thinking about her original cast of students that made the Lifetime series famous.

Ahead of the Season 8 premiere of the dance competition series on June 4, Miller spoke to Us Weekly about her past mistakes and seemed to have quite a bit to say.

“...I’m never going to make the mistakes I made before. I’m never going to trust people with any of my finances, never going to try to make kids who are completely ungrateful into stars,” she told the magazine when asked about her personal changes since overcoming cancer and spending a year behind bars on fraud charges.

She added, “They wouldn’t be doing this and that, the TV show, the movie if it [weren’t] for me and my studio.”

A now cancer-free Miller also noted in the interview that very few of the students from the show came to visit her amid her battle with a rare form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

While she may have been burned in the past, Miller said she is still focused on helping her students grow in the industry. “I always teach my students that if you’re going to be in this business, you have to be willing to put your heart on a plate. Somebody is going to stab it with a fork. You just have to let it roll off your back; that’s the game.”

Overall, throughout her journey, Miller said she’s learned a lot. “It taught me that life is too short,” she said. “All the users that just want to make money from you -- cut them loose. I used to lay out on a rock with my feet up on another rock and read a book -- no nasty emails from parents. It was great.”

Catch the new season of “Dance Moms” on Tuesday, June 4, at 9 p.m. EST on Lifetime.
