"Days of Our Lives"
Abe (James Reynolds) was arrested on "Days of Our Lives." NBC

They've been looking into several different cases and trying to find out who committed the crimes that have plagued Salem recently. Now, after an unexpected lead, Rafe and Hope will find themselves making the most shocking arrest of their careers on the Wednesday, Aug. 16 episode of "Days of Our Lives."

One of the biggest cases they've been working on recently was trying to figure out who Dario's (Jordi Villasousa) secret accomplice was, as that person not only helped him steal money and do other illegal things on the NBC soap, but also was most likely the person behind the wheel of a car which struck and nearly killed Abigail (Marci Miller). The car had been aimed at Chad (Billy Miller), as he and Dario argued over why Abigail was leaving town with him, but Abigail threw herself in front of it instead. She has since recovered and made it out of surgery, but Dario has gone missing and the driver has remained unidentified.

To make matters worse, Eli (Lamon Archey), who was investigating the case for the FBI, seems to have figured out the identity of the accomplice, but had so far kept Rafe and Hope out of the loop. Now though, he has filled them in, and though they're shocked by the name he gives them, they will do their duties and find the person to arrest—who will be none other than Ave (James Reynolds), the town's mayor and their former boss.

Abe will also be dumbfounded and shocked when they arrest him, as he isn't quite sure what has made him a suspect in anything, but there will be significant evidence to at least hold him for suspicion, until more concrete proof—or Dario—shows up to confirm or deny his alleged involvement.

Abe has suddenly seemed to have an influx of cash that was unexpected and unusual, cash he's used to pay his bill at restaurants, and even by his girlfriend, Valerie (Vanessa Williams) beautiful earrings and other lavish gifts. In addition, he's seemed particularly interested in the investigation for the case, and been nervous whenever Eli has dropped some telling hints about the truth in front of him.

Abe also was exceptionally more furious when he learned that Theo (Kyler Pettis) had worked for the DiMera's to try and delete the photo that seemed to frame Chad for Deimos' (Vincent Irizarry) murder. And though his former wife, Lexie, was a DiMera, and his son is also one because of his parentage, he has been extremely vocal over how he doesn't approve of the family's criminal ways, and he certainly didn't approve of Theo's involvement with the most recent incident. He has also expressed at various points that he is still angry over how Lexie died from brain tumors after she was kidnapped by her own family members years before, which could have been his motive for working with Dario.

As more proof seems to show that Abe is in fact, guilty, the news of his arrest will likely sent shockwaves throughout all of Salem.

"Days of Our Lives" airs weekdays on NBC.
