Destiny 2 - Arcstrider
The newly-updated Arcstrider subclass in Season of Plunder Bungie

KEY POINTS

  • Assassin's Cowl can be continuously procced with Combination Blow and Gambler's Dodge
  • Liar's Handshake is good for taking out high-health targets
  • Build as much damage resistance possible from Resilience and fragments

The newly updated Arcstrider in "Destiny 2" offers an ebb-and-flow type of melee playstyle that has both excellent damage and surprising survivability, exceeding even that of Striker Titans.

Arcstriders have always been meant to be the melee-focused subclass for Hunters, but the Arc 3.0 update successfully cranked the dial up even further, offering better ways for Arcstriders to dive straight into the thick of the fight with nothing but lightning-infused fists.

Here's a new melee build using the new Arc 3.0 aspects and fragments for Hunters in "Destiny 2."

Recommended Exotics

There are two recommended exotics for this build: the first is the Liar's Handshake and the second is the Assassin's Cowl.

Liar's Handshake is great for pummeling elites and stunned Champions because its unique perk, Cross Counter, deals increased damage after casting a melee ability or after getting hit by a melee attack. Meanwhile, Assassin's Cowl is better in difficult content where enemies are swarming the fireteam.

Players who want to solo farm Legend Lost Sectors may find more success with the Assassin's Cowl, though Liar's Handshake can work just as well if they play more conservatively.

Aspects, Fragments and Mods

Use Flow State and Lethal Current as they offer the best bonuses for melee playstyles. Lethal Current, in particular, excels at clearing waves of enemies by causing both Blind and Jolt effects upon hitting enemies with a melee attack after dodging. Use this with Combination Blow for near-unlimited dodges.

At the same time, landing a kill with Lethal Current always activates Flow State because of the Jolt effect. This means players will be able to have both aspects up as long as they are scoring melee kills.

For fragments, use the following:

  • Spark of Resistance
  • Spark of Feedback
  • Spark of Amplitude

Use the fourth fragment slot for something like Spark of Frequency for increased reload speed or Spark of Recharge for more ability regeneration while low on health.

Equip the following mods for more melee damage and energy regeneration:

  • Hands-on
  • Well of Ions
  • Melee Wellmaker
  • Momentum Transfer
  • Taking Charge
  • Striking Light

This setup grants extra damage resistance while sprinting while also offering more utility for the team in the form of orb generation. Momentum Transfer and Spark of Amplitude will also feed more energy toward the Super bar for either Arc Staff or Gathering Storm.
