KEY POINTS

  • "Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout" has proven to be a massive summer hit for developers Mediatonic
  • On the question of the game jumping from PS4 and Steam to Twitch or Xbox any time soon, that might take some time before it happens
  • If "Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout" follows the example of "Rocket League," a move to other platforms might be at least a year or two away

With the growing popularity of “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout,” specifically on PlayStation 4 and Steam, the inevitable question of whether the game will eventually make the jump to either Nintendo Switch or Xbox One (or both) is present.

“ Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” is available now on PlayStation 4 and it’s free if you have a subscription to PlayStation Plus. It’s also available on Windows PC courtesy of the aforementioned Steam. It’s also been gaining traction on Twitch so developer Mediatonic has a summer hit on their hands.

As with any hit game on one or two platforms, people start wondering if there’s a possibility to see a game on other platforms as well. However, according to Mediatonic’s own FAQ for Fall Guys, the game will only be available on PS4 and Steam at launch.

“We’d love to bring the game to other platforms further down the line,” Polygon quotes the developer saying. “Please let us know on Twitter and Discord which platforms you’d like us to release on next—we’d love to see how much demand there is!”

The battle royale-style party game could only gain more fans if it would ever traverse the platform bridge by going to the Xbox One or Nintendo Switch, or even to next-gen consoles that are still to come in the form of the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5.

One can just look at how another multiplayer hit first debuted on PlayStation Plus to see what is possible for “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout.” After all, “Rocket League” was first released on PS4 and PC via PS Plus in July 2015. An Xbox One version followed in February 2016, while the Switch version dropped in November 2017.

The wait would thus seem long for those using other consoles. As for the consoles that aren’t here quite yet, Mediatonic had the following response during a Reddit AMA: “We don’t have anything to confirm just yet, but if we were to announce anything in future, we’d do it via our Twitter and Discord channels!”

Polygon notes that it has been reported that Sony mandated PS4 games released as of July 2020 be compatible with PS5. So, it seems likely that Fall Guys will be on PS5 via backward compatibility when the system launches this holiday season.
