On "Fox News Primetime" on Monday night, "Fox Nation" host Lara Logan compared Dr. Anthony Fauci to Josef Mengele, “the Angel of Death” -- the latest in a long line of anti-vaccine comments to come from the network.

Mengele was a German SS officer and physician who performed experiments on Jewish and Roma people, LGBTQIA+ individuals and other Nazi prisoners of war during World War II at the Auschwitz concentration camp.

“This is what people say to me, that he doesn’t represent science to them; he represents Josef Mengele . . . the Nazi doctor who did experiments on Jews during the Second World War and in the concentration camps,” Logan said.

Fauci has received criticism from those on the right who view the measures taken to prevent COVID-19 from spreading to have been Draconian. Many comments have made comparisons between Fauci's policies and Nazi Germany.

Right-wing figure Candace Owens said the U.S. should liberate Australia because of the country’s harsh response to the pandemic. Owens also warned Australia’s policies during the pandemic could lead to a government that resembles that of some of the world’s most evil dictatorships, including Adolf Hitler’s regime during WWII.

Comparisons between the Holocaust and measures taken to fight the pandemic are common on the far right, with many comparing not getting vaccinated to being treated like Jewish people were during the Holocaust. Some have even gone as far as to wear the Star of David, a sacred Jewish symbol used by Nazis during WWII to mark and identify Jewish people.

Many countries have seen protests over what the global right wing views as a restriction on their civil liberties.

“I am talking about people all across the world are saying this because the response from COVID, what it has done to countries everywhere, what it has done to civil liberties, the suicide rates, the poverty, it has obliterated economies,” Logan said. “The level of suffering that has been created because of this disease is now being seen in the cold light of day i.e., the truth, and people see that there is no justification for what is being done.”

Fauci was criticized by Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Tex., and Rand Paul, R-Ky., who have spent months undermining Fauci’s efforts to mitigate the virus' spread and its effects on the U.S. population.

Cruz called Fauci an “unelected technocrat who has distorted science and facts in order to exercise authoritarian control over millions of Americans.”

On CBS’ “Face the Nation” Fauci dismissed Cruz’s and Paul’s comments, saying that criticism of him is akin to “criticizing science because I represent science.”
