In a Hallmark Hall of Fame event, a Five Nights of Five Night Thanksgiving Movie Event and a Countdown to Christmas event, “The Christmas Train” will premiere on Hallmark Channel on Saturday night.

The new holiday film has an all-star cast, featuring Dermot Mulroney, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Danny Glover, Holly Elissa, Joan Cusack and Kirsten Prout.

This marks Mulroney’s first Hallmark film since his 2015 Christmas flick “Northpole: Open for Christmas” with Lori Loughlin and Bailee Madison.

As for Williams-Paisley, she was in Hallmark Movies and Mysteries’ “Darrow and Darrow” earlier this year. She also starred in the Hallmark Hall of Fame film “Follow the Stars Home” in 2001.

Now, the duo are taking on Christmas on Hallmark together.

“Five days before Christmas, disillusioned globetrotting journalist Tom Langdon (Mulroney) boards a transcontinental train in D.C., bound for Los Angeles, where he will be meeting his long distance girlfriend for the holidays,” the synopsis states. “In fulfillment of a promise to his departed father, who had an affinity for locomotives, Langdon takes the train in order to write a story about the journey.”

Aboard the train, Langdon finds himself surrounded by an interesting group of travelers “with whom he will spend the next four days in close quarters, including: Hollywood Producer Max Powers (Glover); Max’s script doctor and protégé Eleanor (Williams-Paisley); busybody Agnes (Cusack); young lovers Julie (Prout) and Steve (Anthony Konechny); lonely widower John (John Innes) and even a boy choir, among others.”

It’s a complete surprise to Tom and Eleanor that they are both on the train, as they share a past together. The two were both reporters years ago and were also a romantic couple for six years. It ended when Eleanor walked away with little explanation.

“Since that time, she has married and divorced, while Tom remained ‘married’ to chasing the stories that mattered in one war-torn country or another. Thrown together again, neither knows quite what to do,” the synopsis explains.

As train journey continues, the story of each passenger is revealed and Tom takes notes in order to write his train story later on.

“Soon, Eleanor begins to soften towards Tom, at last revealing that the reason she had left him – she loved him so deeply and couldn’t face the [thought] of losing him in the crossfire of the next war story he was compelled to cover,” the synopsis reveals.

Will Eleanor and Tom be able to get past their fears and face life together again?

“The Christmas Train” premieres on Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries tonight at 8 p.m. EST.
