Kate Middleton kept an eye on Queen Elizabeth II during their recent engagement together.

Last week, the Duchess of Cambridge and the Queen attended a joint engagement for the first time in seven years. Royal experts noticed that the monarch was vulnerable during the outing and they also observed how Middleton was all eyes on Her Majesty to ensure that she was fine.

“And I think there are moments with the Queen on engagements these days — despite the fact that she is very present, very engaged and very much on form still - there is just a little bit of vulnerability there that makes you, as anyone would for an elderly person, that worry,” Omid Scobie said in the podcast “On Heir.”

Emily Andrews, who was present at the King’s College event, agreed with Scobie that the Queen looked vulnerable. She admitted that she was “fearful” that something could happen to the Queen as she was struggling to “put her feet up” and walk on uneven surfaces.

No one wanted to touch the Queen as there’s a strict protocol to never touch a monarch, but the Lord Lieutenant almost went forward to offer a hand when Queen Elizabeth II got out of the car. A number sensed the monarch’s vulnerability including Middleton.

“What I did see was that Kate always kept an eye on the Queen,” Andrews recalled. “She would always be one step behind as the protocol dictates but I’m sure the Queen wouldn’t mind if she was with her, but it is the Queen.”

During Queen Elizabeth II and Middleton’s outing, they visited a roof terrace and toured the new facilities on the university’s Strand Campus. They also visited King’s virtual trading floor and met the students from the Entrepreneurship Institute, which supports entrepreneurial thinking, skills, and experiences among students, staff and alumni.

It took several years before Queen Elizabeth II and Middleton stepped out together while Meghan Markle immediately scored an engagement with the monarch just months after marrying Prince Harry. There are rumors that the Queen prefers Markle and she’s putting Middleton on the spotlight amid the favoritism speculations.

However, other sources claimed that Queen Elizabeth II and Middleton are really close even if they aren’t spotted together more often. In fact, they have become allies over the years.
