A 22-year-old man in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu allegedly beheaded the husband of the woman he wanted to marry.

The assailant, identified as K. Anandraj, was accused of murdering 31-year-old mechanic S. Surya Raghavan at a television service center near the Ettayapuram Government Hospital in Naduvirpatti at around 11 a.m. Wednesday, newspaper The Times of India reported.

Anandraj, who was a catering graduate from Cholapuram, allegedly plotted to murder Raghavan after the mechanic married Anandraj's 21-year-old friend Mahalakshmi two months ago, according to the outlet.

When Raghavan and Mahalakshmi — a student at a typewriting institute near Raghavan's service center — fell in love, the latter turned down Anandraj's proposal. She then proceeded to marry Raghavan despite facing opposition from the couple's families due to their different castes.

Anandraj was reportedly upset when he found out that Mahalakshmi turned him down for Raghavan, and this allegedly caused him to plot the murder.

The plan involved Anandraj taking a faulty television to Raghavan's service center to have the device fixed. He would then call the mechanic every day under the pretext of checking whether or not the television had been repaired.

Raghavan eventually asked Anandraj to pick up the television Wednesday, but the latter arrived at the service center that day with a bag containing two knives as well as some chilli powder and proceeded to argue with the mechanic over his marriage with Mahalakshmi.

Anandraj allegedly threw the chili powder on Raghavan's face during the encounter and attacked him with a knife. The catering graduate then beheaded Raghavan and threw his head on the road, according to police.

Anandraj was arrested by Ettayapuram police after Tuticorin police superintendent S. Jayakumar visited the scene of the crime, conducted preliminary investigations and formed a team to nab the alleged murderer. Two knives were recovered from him.

Raghavan's body was sent to Thoothukudi Medical College and Hospital for a postmortem.

It was not clear what charges Anandraj could be facing over the incident.

A similar incident happened in the state of Madhya Pradesh in July when a woman and her lover were arrested for allegedly murdering the former's husband with the help of Google.

The duo tied the woman's husband and beat him with a hammer until he died on June 18.

The woman initially feigned ignorance upon being interviewed by police regarding her husband's death, but she later confessed to the crime.

Police also discovered that the woman's Google history contained searches for methods to kill and dispose a body, as well as ways to tie hands and feet.
