A 29-year-old British man recorded a video of himself admitting to murder moments after a man had been fatally stabbed in a nearby apartment last year -- a scene which a witness said had come straight out of a horror movie.

"I think I've murdered someone," Matthew Sheridan, of South Petherton, said in a Snapchat video recorded before he was arrested for the death of 40-year-old Louis Bednall in Yeovil, Somerset, in England on Dec. 12, 2020, the BBC reported.

The victim was visiting the apartment of a friend, identified as Derrick Michael, when the two got into an argument with Sheridan over a bottle of vodka that they believed the latter stole, a report by DevonLive.com said. Sheridan allegedly stabbed Bednall when the latter demanded that the liquor be returned.

The father-of-five and security officer at Torbay Hospital was repeatedly stabbed in the neck, shoulder and face, according to prosecutors.

Sheridan denied the murder before Exeter Crown Court and claimed that it was Michael who was responsible for the attack.

A jury, however, heard Sheridan confessing to murder in the video he had recorded moments before he was arrested.

"I've just been done for murder. I have just murdered someone," Sheridan said in the video.

"I'm not going to be able to cage fight," he added after showing a cut on his hand.

The court was also shown surveillance footage of Sheridan going into Room 4 at a block of apartments at Henford Hill at around 12:30 a.m. and coming out again with blood on his face and clothes 45 seconds later.

Tanaya Robins, Bednall's girlfriend, said she attempted to save her partner's life by wrapping clothes over his wounds, as per the BBC.

"It happened so fast. I shouted out that he had killed him. I looked at Louis and just knew he wasn't going to survive - and all because of a bottle of vodka," Robins was quoted as saying.

"I was doing everything I could but he had a punctured jugular. I literally had to watch him die," she said.

A 16-year-old girl who had been staying with Bednall's group said she had a clear view of what happened during the attack, according to the DevonLive.com report.

Sheridan had used his hand to repeatedly jab toward Bednall's neck, the teenager said in a video-recorded police interview.

"I could see it. You know in horror movies when they stab and slash people, it was like that. I could see the blood coming out," the girl said.

"I could see the hand motion and the blood but could not see what was in his hand. The stabbing was quite quick but it felt like ages," she explained.

The trial continues.
