  • Michelle Obama defends Ellen DeGeneres
  • Michelle Obama and George W. Bush friendship

Michelle Obama recently came to Ellen DeGeneres’ defense after the talk show host was criticized due to her friendship with former President George W. Bush.

During her interview with Jenna Bush Hager on “Today,” the ex-FLOTUS said that there’s nothing wrong with being friends with someone who doesn’t share the same points of view.

Obama’s friendship with Bush was also criticized in the past, but she said that he and the former president share the same values. They had the chance to get to know each other at funerals, and they have also exchanged stories.

“We disagreed on policy, but we don’t disagree on humanity. We don’t disagree with love and compassion. I think that’s true for all of us, it’s just that we get lost in our fear of what’s different,” she said.

Following her interview, the former first lady was praised by her supporters for being inclusive. One of them said that Obama’s recent comments prove that Democrats can be friends with Republicans.

“Michelle Obama is truly a lovely, smart, kind-hearted, and courageous woman. She speaks without bias. She’s not afraid to voice her opinion in a non-threatening manner. Her friends are her friends, no matter what political party they may belong to. And she has many friends!” Twitter user @helzar2 said.

“If only the White House was seen like this now?” Twitter user @celesti58652877 said.

Other supporters also encouraged Barack Obama’s wife to run for president next year.

“Would be great if Michelle would run for president in 2020. She is such a compassionate and authentic person,” Twitter user @bluegoldboy69 said.

“Like what Ms. Obama said about George W; a snapshot of humanity, minus divisive politics (as in Trump),” Twitter user @tom_lowell_born said.

Meanwhile, the first lady also made headlines recently after she weighed in on President Donald Trump’s impeachment. She called the proceedings surreal. She also said that the president’s impeachment shouldn’t be regarded as a battle of us or them or of Democrats vs. Republicans.
