Monday is National Girlfriends Day, a celebration of the women you love. Since it's yet another social-media-friendly-but-not-necessarily-real holiday, you can observe it however you want: either as a chance to recognize female friendship or let your lover know you appreciate her.

National Girlfriends Day doesn't have a clear origin, according to daysoftheyear.com, which means you're free to use it as an excuse to drink margaritas with your BFFs or give your significant other a new purse. The only holiday requirement seems to be that you recognize how important your relationships — platonic, intimate and everything in between — are.

You can do this by sharing quotes with your girlfriend of choice. Here are 15 sayings for Monday's holiday, collected from New York Magazine, Thought Catalog and BrainyQuote:

"Friendship between women is different than friendship between men. We talk about different things. We delve deep. We go under, even if we haven’t seen each other for years." — Jane Fonda

"It's all about reminding the other person how important and special she is to you." — Tyler Hoechlin
