A New York Police officer was arrested Thursday for allegedly possessing sexually explicit photographs and videos of minors.

Brooklyn-based Carmine Simpson has been accused of targeting preteens and teens on Twitter and TikTok, and convincing them to send him nude pictures and masturbation videos, a criminal complaint filed against him said, the NY Daily News reported. The court documents said Simpson contacted minors through social media and asked them to send him the images and videos.

Simpson was under the radar after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted authorities about a Twitter handle, named "LifeOfChris69," that targeted minors.

According to prosecutors, the 27-year-old cop connected with 46 children, who were between 13 and 17 years old, from April to November 2020. He also used Snapchat, TikTok, Discord and FaceTime.

He allegedly told one of his victims, "I literally want to hold a gun to a girl's head and tell her 'this better be the best orgasm of my life or I'll blow your brains out.'" Prosecutors said Simpson had 18 sexually explicit photos and 33 videos on his Twitter account alone.

The department suspended Simpson without pay, terming the allegations against him "reprehensible." "The NYPD has zero tolerance for any officer who would endanger children or betray his oath in such a manner," an NYPD spokesman said.

In the court papers, Assistant U.S. Attorney Megan Farrell said the defendant verbally abused children online.

"He encouraged those children to physically abuse themselves, and intentionally persuaded numerous minors to produce sexually explicit photographs and videos of themselves and send them to him via the internet," the documents read.

"Most disturbingly, the defendant was not only verbally abusive but he also encouraged certain victims to engage in destructive behavior, such as cutting themselves with a knife, choking themselves with belts and hitting themselves," the court papers said.

Simpson made a 15-year-old girl sent him 50 files, which included her choking herself while masturbating. He also allegedly asked a 13-year-old transgender child in September to slap and gag herself.

The judge ordered Simpson to be jailed without bail pending a trial, noting that he was a danger to the community due to his violent tendencies.

"One of the major concerns I have is that this is not a one-off incident here. This series of events went on for months and months. There’s a pattern that clearly was established here," said U.S. Magistrate Judge A. Kathleen Tomlinson.

Simpson is currently being held in protective custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
