'The Only Podcast Left': Where And How To Listen To Netflix's Scripted 'Daybreak' Podcast

Streaming giant Netflix is about to enter the world of scripted podcasts when they launch their series “The Only Podcast Left” on Nov. 7. The new podcast will be a spinoff of the post-apocalyptic series “Daybreak”. This marks the first original scripted podcast for Netflix since they started doing podcasts earlier this year.

Variety broke the news that Netflix is continuing its foray into the realm of podcasting. The six-episode program will follow teens that end up making a podcast during the apocalypse. The original series that the podcast is based on follows a high school student on a journey through a post-apocalyptic wasteland searching for his missing girlfriend as he fights through whatever the world throws at him.

Just to make sure “The Only Podcast Left” follows the tone of the series, “Daybreak” writer and showrunner Aron Coleite will be an executive producer on the project.

“Netflix is an amazing creative partner. When they asked us to do a narrative podcast in the 'Daybreak' world, we came back with the most insane idea we could think of and they didn’t even blink. In fact, they got even more excited about what we were trying to create,” Coleite said.

Lauren Jarvis, head of content partnerships for Spotify in North America, said the podcast was created to give "Daybreak" fans a way to "dive deeper into the post-apocalyptic world" of the series. “We love how podcasts give creators more freedom to explore and go deeper into elements of their stories, and we see original scripted podcasts as the next level in world exploration,” Rae Votta, podcast lead for the Netflix brand and editorial team, explained.

The streaming company has other podcasts under its belt with talk shows “Present Company With Krista Smith”, “Strong Black Legends”, and their true-crime series “You Can’t Make This Up”.

The podcast will be released exclusively on Spotify until Dec. 12 and will then release on Apple Podcasts along with other platforms. For a peek at the new podcast, listeners can head over to Spotify to listen in to the first two minutes.
