Future Star Wars games will be made by EA www.starwars.com

Blake Jorgensen, CFO of Electronic Arts Inc., or EA, mentioned the possibility of a new "Star Wars: Battlefront" game when speaking at the Stifel Internet, Media & Communications Conference this week in New York.

"The opportunity to do a new Battlefront, for example, which is one of the very popular Star Wars games, or some of the other traditional games that were made, is very exciting," Jorgensen said.

"Star Wars: BattleFront" is a first and third-person shooter series that takes place in the "Star Wars" space opera universe." As of 2011, "Star Wars: Battlefront 2," which was released in 2005, reportedly sold nearly 6.5 million copies across three platforms: Xbox, PS2 and PSP.

This number suggests that consumer interest in a "Star Wars: Battlefront" sequel could be strong, boosted by the upcoming releases of next-gen consoles like the Xbox One and PS4, as well as Disney's announcement that new "Star Wars" movies will be hitting theaters starting in 2015.
