Kara (Melissa Benoist) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) must work together to rescue Alex (Chyler Leigh) in Season 2, episode 19 of “Supergirl.”

According to the synopsis for the episode, Alex is kidnapped, and the kidnapper threatens to kill her unless Kara releases a notorious criminal from prison.

“Hello, Supergirl. Walk into prison and break my father out within the next 36 hours or your sister will die,” the kidnapper tells Kara over the phone in the trailer for the episode. The kidnapper also says that he spent a whole year planning his father’s escape from jail, and that includes coming face to face with the Girl of Steel.

Alex, meanwhile, is locked up in a glass cell, which the kidnapper starts filling with water. Despite her deadly situation, the DEO agent is still more concerned about her sister’s safety. “You cannot let yourself be blackmailed. Supergirl is bigger than me,” Alex says in the clip.

Kara and Maggie have always had different approaches to apprehending criminals, so the two find themselves at odds as they figure out the best way to save the woman they both care about.

“They both have such strong feelings for Alex, and they’re both strong opinionated women who really are passionate about their work. So they’re going to butt heads a little bit,” Lima told TVLine.

“They don’t necessarily agree on how to deal with the fact that the person that’s the most important to both of them is missing and in danger,” added Benoist.

Leigh also talked about the episode during an interview with SiriusXM radio show, “Superhero Insider.”

“Episode 19 is a very big episode for [Alex and Maggie] just because it comes to dire circumstances, where it’s a situation of a rescue,” Leigh said. “It causes Kara and Maggie to have to rely on each other to figure out what happened to Alex. You have to see how they work together, and you have to see how they’re both fighting for the person that they love, that they care about, and how that can take a toll if you have differing opinions, different ways that you kill aliens. It’s this really great example of how deep all of the relationships are.”

Also in next week’s episode, Rhea (Teri Hatcher) — who introduced herself to Lena (Katie McGrath) at the end of last episode — makes an interesting proposal for the L-Corp CEO.

“Supergirl” Season 2, episode 19, titled “Alex,” airs on Monday, May 1 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
