  • Study claims that IPE supplements alongside moderate-intensity exercises can speed up fat loss

Everyone wants to lose weight and do it in an easy way. Researchers have been trying to give a solution for just that. Experts in Scotland reported that taking inulin-propionate (IPE) supplements alongside moderate-intensity workout sessions improved the speed of fat loss even without making any dietary changes.

The researchers investigated the impact of IPE supplementation for 4 weeks in combination with a moderate-intensity workout on whole-body fat oxidation.

The study involved 28 overweight and otherwise healthy women who participated in supervised exercise training for a period of 4 weeks. They were given IPE supplementation or placebo. The researchers collected their fasting and postprandial blood samples before and after the intervention. None of the study participants were asked to adhere to any kind of diet modifications and they were all made to take part in moderate exercises including dancing or brisk walking.

The findings of the study revealed that the women who indulged in the exercise training with IPE supplementation experienced better fat oxidation and reduced more bodyweight.

Although the study period was too short for the participants to lose any significant amount of weight, it was reported that burning fat faster for a longer duration could speed up weight loss. Previous studies reported that IPE supplementation helped cravings of high-calorie foods and made people consume smaller meal portions, said Daily Mail.

IPE is a fascinating supplement that can make individuals feel full and could help speed up fat burning since the body’s metabolism is faster when it feels satiated. Propionate is a short-chain fatty acid secreted in the gut when the microbes digest dietary fiber. It is an effective natural appetite suppressor. Since propionate breaks down quickly inside the body, the researchers have chemically bound it to inulin. The fiber is quite similar to garlic, onion, and artichoke.

There's a great deal of interest at the moment in how our gut microbiota affects our health and well-being," Medical News Today quoted the study’s co-author Douglas Morrison.

They are currently seeking funding for further trials of IPE involving more number of participants for a longer period of time.
