Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, is under fire after he took a moment to send his condolences to those impacted by the school shooting in Arlington, Texas, and then pivoted to speaking about the border crisis.

At a press conference Wednesday, Cruz reflected on the shooting before changing the subject.

“I know all of us are lifting up prayer the students and the teachers and the first responders and the parents,” Cruz said.

“There have been far too many of these at far too many schools and so we are grateful for the courage and heroism of the first responders, and we are hopeful that all of the students or individuals who may have been injured will come through and survive.”

He then began speaking about immigration.

“We are here today to talk about the Biden border crisis that continues to rage on the southern border,” he said before the networks ended coverage of the conference.

Twitter users immediately began slamming Cruz for failing to spend more time speaking about the shooting to attack Biden about immigration.

“Of all the snarky, disgusting, inauthentic, fake outrage performances I’ve seen Ted Cruz make, this pivot from a school shooting that just happened not far away, to rip Biden about the border, might just be the worst,” one user posted.

One user admitted they weren’t surprised that Cruz decided to focus on attacking Biden rather than shining a light on the victims of the school shooting.

“Ted Cruz using the school shooting as an opportunity to slam President Biden is so… Ted Cruz,” the post read.

Police in Arlington confirmed an 18-year-old was responsible for the school shooting at Timberview High School following a fight with another student.

The gunfire left four people injured, two of those people have been transported to the hospital to receive medical treatment. The suspect is now in custody.
