“This Is Us” Season 2 was supposed to come back right after New Years, but it seems NBC extended the hiatus. The family drama will not return for another week.

On Tuesday night, the official “This Is Us” Twitter account revealed that Season 2 will now return on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 9 p.m. EST.

It isn’t clear why the midseason premiere was pushed, but it isn’t much farther. As previously reported, “This Is Us” Season 2 was set to come back Jan. 2. Now it’ll return to NBC a week later.

A week doesn’t seem like much, but many “This Is Us” fans are desperate for new episodes. Season 2 left off with Kevin (Justin Hartley) getting arrested for drunk driving with his niece in the car. Randall (Sterling K. Brown), who had to give up his foster daughter earlier in the episode, was last seen heading to the station to pick up his brother. No one has even had the chance to tell Kate (Chrissy Metz), who recently suffered a miscarriage, about all this drama.

While showrunner Dan Fogelman isn’t letting too many secrets about the back half of Season 2 slip, he did mention to Deadline that the new episodes will be intense. As Kevin tackles rehab, his siblings and his mother Rebecca (Mandy Moore) will be there to support him, and they end up having to face a lot of their issues.

“They just go at it in an interesting way that I had to call of them into my office because there’s some really serious acting going on,” Fogelman teased. “We find Kevin in rehab, and the family has arrived to hash things out in a therapy session. It’s very loaded.”

The therapy session is about a 12-minute scene, so expect the family to go in-depth about their issues.

Many of their troubles likely stem from the death of Jack (Milo Ventimiglia). This season of “This Is Us” has demonstrated how all of the Big Three are still affected by the loss of their father, who died when they were teenagers. The 2018 episodes are expected to finally reveal how Jack died. Although the Pearson family home burned down and seemingly killed Jack, it still isn’t clear how the fire started or why he was caught in the flames.

Fans will have to wait until “This Is Us” returns on Jan. 9 to find out.
