Queen Elizabeth II reportedly became very upset during the Royal Ascot last week.

Royal commentator Phil Dampier told Yahoo’s “The Royal Box” that last week’s competition was quite bittersweet for Her Majesty. After all, her beloved horse lost at the races but it was also the first time that a female jockey won at the Royal Ascot in 32 years.

“She likes being at Ascot. And as an owner, she was very upset one day, of course, because we had the first female jockey to win for 32 years in a race and the second horse was one of the Queen’s… So I think it was bittersweet,” he said.

Hayley Turner became the first female jockey in 32 years to win at the Royal Ascot on Thanks Be. Her win prevented the Queen’s Magnetic Charm from bringing home the grand prize. The last female jockey to win at the Royal Ascot was Gay Kelleway in 1987.

Meanwhile, Dampier also discussed the Queen’s fondness for her horses and said that the monarch would oftentimes ride her horses before the Royal Ascot. Royal commentator Victoria Arbiter chimed in by saying that it was hilarious to see the royal’s humanity.

“Some of my favorite old and sort of vintage footage on YouTube is the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret and the Queen at the races. It’s like you can’t take your eyes off of it… It’s hilarious to see their humanity,” she said.

The Queen started riding her horses just as a hobby before she fell in love with tit and did it while performing her ceremonial duties. As of late, Her Majesty owns several thoroughbred horses that are used in racing and she also breeds them.

Every year at the Royal Ascot, the Queen hands out the trophy to the winners on the last day of the week-long event. Last Saturday was the final day of the Royal Ascot this year.
