World Cancer Day is observed on Feb. 4 every year to raise awareness about the disease, which, according to the World Health Organization, is the second leading cause of death globally. Seeking to inform and educate people about prevention, detection and treatment, World Cancer Day activities aim to reduce illness and death caused by cancer.

World Cancer Day is led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), whose goal is “a world where millions of preventable cancer deaths are saved and access to life-saving cancer treatment and care is equal for all - no matter who you are or where you live,” according to its website.
