KEY POINTS

  • The new subclass uses a Darkness power called Strand
  • "Lightfall" is set in a new city on Neptune called Neomuna
  • Guardians will be fighting against Cabal and other disciples of the Witness

The 2022 Bungie Showcase gave "Destiny 2" players a glimpse of all the exciting things they can expect in the upcoming "Lightfall" expansion next year.

"Lightfall" already looks like "Destiny 2's" most ambitious expansion yet. There's a slew of content to go over, most of which were unveiled in the reveal trailer.

However, the developers went into detail regarding each of the new additions during the showcase. Here's what they had to say.

New Area – Neomuna

The expansion will take players to an entirely new city on Neptune called Neomuna, a sprawling urban environment that's somewhat untouched by the ravages of war. The neon-lit cityscape offers tons of verticality and plenty of Calus' Cabal to shoot.

Neomuna is also home to a new faction – the Cloudstriders. The city's natives have risen up to fight the invaders, and they are more than willing to help the Guardians in their crusade against the Witness.

Darkness Subclass – Strand

Strand is a brand-new subclass that's all about altering the weave of reality. Bungie said that the power is all about making something from seemingly out of nothing, and it's not exactly the poison class players were expecting.

The subclass will introduce telekinetic powers for the Warlock, a pair of bladed claws for the Titan and a sharp spike attached to a long rope for Hunters. More importantly, it will allow all classes to use a grappling hook for momentum-based traversal across the skyscrapers of Neomuna and beyond.

Legend Difficulty Returns

According to the devs, two out of every three Guardians finished "Witch Queen's" campaign on Legend difficulty, so they decided to reprise it for "Lightfall's" campaign. It will once again serve as a faster way to get raid-ready gear just like in the previous expansion.

In-Game LFG and Loadout Tools

Bungie will be implementing a Fireteam Finder and in-game loadout manager once "Lightfall" goes live. This will eliminate the need to rely on third-party apps like the "Destiny 2" Companion App, the LFG Discord server and even DIM.

There will also be a Guardian Rank system that's designed to ease the new player experience by guiding newbies through all of the necessary mechanics that every Guardian needs to know.
