Empire Season 2 Soundtrack Part Two
Jamal (Jussie Smollett) will show why he’s one of the best artists around when he performs “Freedom” in the second half of “Empire” Season 2. Fox

“Empire” has always been a show memorable for not only crazy moments within the Lyon family, but also for the soundtrack. After the hip hop drama was off TV for over three months, the second half of Season 2 will pick back up this Wednesday with some new music. Fans were given a sneak peek of new music Friday when the show released two songs off the upcoming “Empire: Original Soundtrack, Season 2 Volume 2.”

Hakeem (Bryshere “Yazz” Gray) could take over his father’s company when Season 2 returns thanks to his ex-girlfriend Camilla (Naomi Campbell), who now has control of the label. It’s fitting that the first song released features Yazz and a few other familiar voices like Serayah, who plays Tiana on the show, and Jamila Velazquez, who stars as Hakeem’s current love interest Laura.

“All Nite” is another song perfect for a club as they sing about “popping bottles” and dancing all night. The track also features rapper Yo Gotti. You can hear the full song below:

You can’t have new music from “Empire” featuring only one of the Lyon sons. The second song released, “Freedom,” is by Jussie Smollett, who plays Jamal on the show. Towards the end of the first half of Season 2, Smollett’s song with Alicia Keys, “Powerful,” was one of his best on the show. While “Powerful” was a bit slower, the first track for the second part of the season is more upbeat.

“Freedom” has a little bit of a jazz feel to it and sounds like it would be a song that was performed by Stevie Wonder. The track shows why Jamal will be up for song of the year when the show returns, but he’ll have to beat out his father Lucious (Terrence Howard) to win the award. You can hear “Freedom” below:

When episode 11 airs on Wednesday, Lucious will be doing all he can to get his company back, while Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) will be there for him to make sure he doesn’t go overboard. The family will also have to deal with a “horrific tragedy” that will be a game changer. It could be that Andre (Trai Byers) and Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) lost their child after she was pushed down stairs in the fall finale.

“Empire” Season 2 returns Wednesday, March 30 on Fox at 9 p.m. EDT. “Empire: Original Soundtrack, Season 2 Volume 2” will be available on April 29. You can preorder the album here.
