London-based developer Mediatonic has an undisputed hit on its hands as “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” reportedly had 1.5 million unique players in the first 24 hours since its launch.

Not even major technical difficulties on the morning of its launch that caused frustration for many of those players could stop the interest in “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout.” The colorful, wacky battle-royale-meets-obstacle-course game received positive early impressions, encouraging an early wave of players to try it out.

As an additional incentive to try the game out, it is free to download for PlayStation Plus members to download for the month of August, ScreenRant notes.

Despite some of the early players expressing their frustrations on Steam over major technical difficulties experienced and affecting its early user review scores, the game seems almost as bulletproof as what happened with “The Last of Us Part II” when it was launched in June of this year.

The “review bombing” that the latter title encountered from angry fans actually resulted in more interest in “The Last of Us Part II.” Metacritic eventually tweaked the way that its user reviews work as a response to this phenomenon.

Shaky launch notwithstanding, the official Twitter account for “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” happily shared in a celebratory tweet that its first day was a very good one. The tweet playfully acknowledges that the success might be linked to the unexpected traffic the game experienced yet the “Fall Guys” team also explains that they are taking action to address it.

A patch is supposedly being developed to fix the issues surrounding “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout,” and the Mediatonic team is taking all feedback and ideas into consideration.

Publisher Devolver Digital can now count “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” among its recent string of successes. They were the company behind the launch of “Carrion,” a short and enjoyable experience that encourages players to walk a mile in a scientist-eating monster's shoes.

Devolver Digital also released a true world premiere in “Devolverland Expo,” a virtual recreation of E3 marketing, says ScreenRant.

Whereas a game could easily be sunk by negative first-day reviews, “Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout” was able to weather the initial storm to the tune of 1.5 million players. Even if some developers are rushing to release games with the promise of a patch to just follow in weeks to follow, Mediatonic was somehow able to have “Fall Guys” back up and running a few hours after the issue surfaced.
