Hilarious footage of an Irish family attempting to catch a bat in their kitchen has gone viral this week after the family’s son shared it to Facebook. The expletive-laced video shows the creature swooping through the room as the family’s helpless patriarch attempts to nab the bat with a mere towel and the rest of the family unloads riotous commentary from the sidelines.

“So a Bat flew into our house last night,” Fleming captioned the original Monday post on Facebook. “[S]afe to say it was dealt with in a calm and mannerly fashion.”

In under a day since it was posted to Facebook, the post had already gone viral. The video had 12,000 “likes,” 12,000 shares and more than 700,000 views as of Tuesday evening.

“Panic ensued when the bat entered the kitchen from the back door,” Tadhg told gossip site the Daily Edge in an interview. “My father (with my football shorts and long woolly socks) tried to first catch the bat with a tea towel, then opted for a larger towel which the mother had just ironed.”

He added: “From then, my self and my mother hid behind the doors to let my father take on the bat 1v1.”

The post later went viral on Twitter after being shared by another user on the platform.

“The world is going to hell,” user Jonathan Hopkins‏ tweeted Monday. “You owe it to yourself to watch this video of Irish people attempting to get a bat out of their kitchen.”

Within hours of being shared, the video had been favorited and retweeted tens of thousands of times Tuesday. Hopkins noted in a reply tweet that the video was originally posted by Fleming.
