  • Melania Trump praised after wearing a sleeveless dress
  • Michelle Obama caused an uproar for baring her arms
  • Professionals commented on first ladies wearing sleeveless dresses

Melania Trump was praised for wearing a sleeveless dress which Michelle Obama was criticized for.

Melania joined President Donald Trump at the Daytona 500. The first lady was stunning in her black and white dress. Daily Caller described Melania’s fashion sense as “always on point no matter what the occasion.”

“Absolutely stunning and perfect! Melania never disappoints. She is the most beautiful First Lady ever,” one commented on the FLOTUS’ outfit.

“You did great as always. Always classy,” @JimmieStone17 added.

However, not everyone was impressed with Melania’s outfit because when former first lady Michelle Obama wore the same sleeveless design, she was criticized.

According to V Magazine, Michelle’s black Michael Kors sleeveless dress was deemed “inappropriate” and the ex-FLOTUS continued to face criticisms throughout her husband Barack Obama’s presidency.

Due to the incident, one netizen asked why Melania didn’t cause the same uproar Michelle did when the two wore similar outfits. Twitter users shared their opinions and the majority believed that it had something to do with the FLOTUS’ past modeling career, with most mocking Melania for her nude magazine cover.

“At this point, people are relieved she’s even wearing clothes,” @trudeewho wrote.

“Considering it’s Melania, be grateful she’s wearing ANYTHING,” @billb1950 opined.

“Well considering her baseline...which we have all seen, she is well covered up, by her standards,” @Eppn2016Maddie wrote.

Fashion professionals have commented on the issue about the first ladies wearing sleeveless. According to Polly Mellen, the legendary fashion editor of Vogue for 30 years, there is nothing inappropriate in baring arms.

“If your arms and underarms can handle it, stay with it. There's nothing about being a First Lady and going sleeveless that’s disrespectful,” Mellen said.

Letitia Baldridge, Jackie Kennedy’s social secretary, also revealed that they wore sleeveless dresses all the time. She also agreed that “there’s nothing immodest about showing your arms!”
